Trade in Program F.A.Q.s

What is the GameStop Trade-in program?

GameStop offers the opportunity to trade in your used games, accessories, and consoles for in-store credit. Customers can also trade towards pre-paid Visa or Mastercard gift cards that can be used elsewhere.

What can I trade in at GameStop?

We accept trades on select games, accessories, console and handheld hardware for the following gaming platforms: Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 4, XBOX One, & Nintendo Switch.

What restrictions are there on trading?

To comply with local laws and regulations, customers must be at least 18 years of age to trade in at GameStop. Valid government ID must also be shown at the time of trade, and depending on the province or territory, some personal identification may have to be recorded for auditing purposes only. If the local laws and regulations differ from the trade-in policy stated above, then the local laws and regulations come into effect. Please note that some locations have limitations on the Trade program. See your local store for details.

What needs to be included with my trade?

Software games must include original cases, artwork and instructions in order to be eligible for our trade promotions. Hardware/Accessories devices require applicable cables, power adaptors and one controller per console. See associate for complete details.

How is the trade value determined?

Our trade values are determined using many factors, including condition, replayability, popularity and the number of units traded in nationally. The value of games, accessories, electronics and hardware will diminish over time so be sure to trade it in right away.

How much will I get for my trade?

Trade values differ for each item traded, but many items can be increased in value by one of our many trade promotions. Plus, EDGE members get additional trade credit depending on their level in the program. Trade offers cannot be combined. See in-store for specific trade values and details on our current trade promotions.

You can also put your trade credit towards pre-paid Visa and MasterCard gift cards. With our various trade offers, you can get even more credit towards your next purchase.

Can I trade in games not purchased at GameStop?

We accept games purchased from any retailer, without proof of purchase.

Is there an expiry date on the trade-in credit?

No. Customers can use their trade-in credit at any time and at any GameStop location in Canada or online at EBGames.ca.

Do I have to purchase something at the same time I trade in a game?

Customers can trade in as many items as they want and they can trade towards any product in the store, presell an upcoming item, take their trade credit with them on an GameStop card or a pre-paid Visa or MasterCard gift card.

What happens to a game once I trade it in?

Consoles, electronics and select accessories are automatically sent back to our Reclamation Centre where the product undergoes a thorough refurbishment process which includes testing, repairs (if needed) and cleaning. All products must pass through our Quality Assurance process before it is shipped back to store as refurbished.

Why do you call them Used games?

When customers trade in their old games, accessories, or systems, we clean, repair, and repackage them, then put them back on our shelves to be sold. We then call these products "Playd", as they have now been saved from being thrown into a landfill.

Do Used games come with a warranty?

Our Used product is backed by our 30 day return policy – if there are any issues we will exchange it for the same product. For further peace of mind, you can add extended warranties on all of your games, accessories, and consoles for an additional charge.

How are your Used prices determined?

The retail value of our Used product will be determined based on the supply/demand, model and the age of product.

Trade values change regularly. Trades must be in working condition. Activation fees may apply. Some restrictions apply in select municipalities. See sales associate for complete details.
